City Sail at Hudson River Sailing Community - for Ages 10-17 - Scholarships Available

City Sail is our week-long sailing summer camp. Escape the heat and noise of the city and enjoy the Hudson River.  Drive the boat, meet kids like you, and learn cool skills to impress your friends and family. 

8 week-long sessions between July 2 and August 24 in Chelsea, 3 week-long sessions between July 30th and August 17th in Inwood. Both camps run from 9am-4pm. Students may sign up for multiple weeks - first-timers usually opt for 1-2 weeks and veterans go for 2-3 weeks. There are options for early drop-off and late pick-up.

3rd Annual Sports Banquet

Dear Families of ICE Athletes,

Please join us for our 3rd Annual Sports Banquet celebrating our student-athletes!  On Tuesday, June 5th, we will serve dinner and desert at 5 pm in our cafeteria which will be catered by Paquito's (burritos and fajitas)and Haagen Dazs (yep, we have an ice cream bar).  From 6 - 7:15 pm, we will hold an awards ceremony in the auditorium filled with student speakers, photo slideshow, awards for every player, and also team specific awards.

The night is always a blast and each year we have more and more students participating in our ever growing athletics program.  Please join us!!

At ICE we believe that Performance Based Assessment Tasks (PBATs) and project-based Interim Assessments (IAs) are authentic and meaningful ways for students to demonstrate their mastery of content, skills, and metacognitive thinking. The PBATs and  IA presentations showcase student learning at many points along an ICE student's education, occurring throughout the 6-12th grades. For these assessments, we value the role of external evaluators (YOU!) to help create an authentic environment for assessment of our students’ understanding and invite you to join our faculty and student peers in assessing students’ abilities to present, explain and defend their academic work.

Participation does not require prior content knowledge on your part (with the exception of the 10th grade Spanish Graduation Requirement), and clear directions will be provided to all evaluators. An ICE teacher will also be with you to help guide the process.  Please click on the link below, browse the presentation events listed,  and sign up based upon your interest and availability.  

There are NO limits to the number of PBATs or  presentations that a parent may sit on!

"Hey, Parents! PBAT’s season is here! Here’s your chance to experience the uniqueness of our school: by attending student presentations on various subjects: humanities, science, history, neuro-science, math. Not only will you evaluate the quality of the presentation, but you will admire the serious work and creativity of both students and teachers. Students prepare long and hard for these presentations; part of their reward is explaining the complexities of their research to an attentive audience.

This is where you come in! You do not need to be an expert in the field of the particular presentation: a specific rubric for evaluation will be handed to you at the start of the panel and you will be able to both record your individual input as well as hear the other panelists’ input at the end. Your feedback helps improve students’ projects! This is also a great occasion to see the teachers in action: since they participate in the evaluation panel, you get to experience the high standards that they hold our students to first-hand! Incoming parents will find the PBAT’s quite enlightening in terms of what lies ahead for their children’s education. I know I did. Attending the PBAT’s confirmed for me that the learning that happens at ICE is what I definitely want for my children."

Annual 10th Grade Arts Night!

ICE Parents,
 
You’re cordially invited to the annual 10th grade Arts Night on Tuesday, May 22nd from 5pm to 7:30pm
 
Every year, the 10th graders have the opportunity to go to Washington DC with the school. On this trip, the students have the privilege to work with some organizations to further develop their cycle four project. With the trip comes the task of fundraising. The class has been doing work all year to raise money for the trip, but the final event is the Annual Arts Night.

There will be a wide selection of food, drinks and entertainment.
 
Come to see:

  • Music from the 10th grade electives in the small gym with a buffet dinner from 5-6
  • Plays from the 10th graders in the auditorium from 6-730                              

Tickets and Pricing:

  • 10 dollars in advance; have your children buy tickets from Katie Hunter’s room or any of the 10th graders
  • 13 dollars at the door; tickets will be found inside the main lobby at ICE (16th street entrance)

Tickets give:

  • Access to both of the performances from 5-7:30pm
  • Access to a variety of foods available in the small gym during music performances

 Schedule:

  • 5-6pm is music and food in the small gym
  • 6-7:30pm are the plays in the auditorium

Do you love technology and your library? Want to make a difference in your community? Looking to build your resume and gain valuable work and leadership experience? Apply to BPL's T4 program!

By participating, you'll learn new computer skills in a two-week summer technology institute, and then share those skills by helping patrons use library computers. You'll also assist library staff with computer troubleshooting and computer training workshops for the public.

Affected residents of NYC can receive free immigration help through CUNY Citizenship Now. 
 
TPS, or Temporary Protected Status, has allowed immigrants from 10 countries to stay legally in the US, including El Salvador, Haiti, Honduras, Nepal, Nicaragua, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Syria and Yemen. This month, the Trump's administration announced that it would end TPS for Honduras, placing 57,000 people at risk for deportation. This is despite the fact that many Hondurans have fled the country because of violence, unemployment, deep poverty, and lack of opportunities.

What a fabulous way to start the week! Monday evening was filled with super-talented HS Students from New York City Schools: The Institute for Collaborative Education (Manhattan), City-As-School MAD Program (Manhattan) and High School for Violin and Dance (Bronx) including Roy Nathanson and members of the Jazz Passengers and Sotto Voce followed by the NYC Subway ride home.
